Learn about the Lifestyle Shoot…. I’m Booking fall dates now…
One of the hottest areas of portrait photography is the in-home lifestyle session. This is a trend that I fully support… obviously ? I feel that this genre is the most valuable to families because it helps them remember the past better than any other. Lets walk through a recent shoot…
Lifestyle photography begins with a consultation. Time to plan the shoot– what rooms to use what to do and what to wear. We plan activities that often include playing with favorite toys, reading, bath time, prayer time, crafting or any interesting activities/rituals that the family would like to remember doing.
The day of the session: After greeting the family and having one of the kids give me a quick tour of the house, I often start with group photo so the children can get used to the situation while the family is all together. I like to get the family looking natural and having fun instead of the stiff, cheesy grin at the camera.
Flexibility is key to a successful shoot. The light in the nursery was great when I arrived, so we started with adorable Baby M…
Then we moved to the master bedroom…
Some of the best shots aren’t planned. While we were setting up another shot, Baby M escaped to the bathroom… I adjusted my camera settings and laid down on my belly to get this iconic shot.
This family enjoys ice cream! They decided to make sundays for the camera…
Capturing connection and personality is where lifestyle photography shines. Capturing beautiful yet fun portraits of siblings in their own house. What could be better?
These are my two favorite shots of the day and they make great pieces of art for the home.
There were several other activities in this shoot, but this gives you a good idea of how it goes. If you are worried that your house isn’t clean enough, don’t be. Tight shots and moving things behind the camera make clean simple composition.
After the shoot, the files are culled and carefully edited. When your gallery is ready, within two weeks, you will meet me at my studio to review the images and decide what to print and what to include in your album. The prints and albums will last for generations, becoming family heirlooms.
